Gratitude. The quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.
It’s a simple concept when you read these words… So why is it something that is so hard for us to remember?
I’m not talking about saying thank you for someone who holds the door for you or shows you kindness, although that is important. I’m talking about the kind of gratitude that stirs something new inside of you. The kind that makes your heart swell with contentment and love.
I’m talking about the hard to give gratitude moments of our life. The remembering to be grateful for the little things in life AND in the midst of the hard things in life.
Like breathing, health, family, a place to sleep. You see, it seems easy to be grateful for these things but instead we lose sight and focus on strive for the things we don’t have rather than the wonderful things we do have.
Why it Matters
Have you ever felt like you constantly compare yourself to others? Do you ever say to yourself “if I just had this one thing I’d be happy” or do you find yourself feeling unsettled and discontented on a regular basis?
One simple change in your day could make all the difference in your heart. And from your heart flows everything.
And the difference is HUGE.
How to Foster a Grateful Heart
Gratitude is truly a mind-heart matter. I think most of us have good intentions when it comes to being grateful but we get caught up in the things that don’t matter nearly as much as truly being grateful.
When we give thanks for all the little things, big things, and everything in between our hearts and spirits are changed. We can thrive and be ready to return kindness. And can you imagine what a world would be like with more kindness?
The ONE Daily Change YOU Can Make
While we cannot change the actions or thoughts of those around us, we can look inward and make a change for our own hearts. I hope you will join me this season and make one simple change in your day. I’m going to start journaling in this gratitude journal I’ve created for me and YOU!
I hope this journal brings about the most wonderful change in your heart and spirit. I hope it helps you put into perspective the important things that are huge blessings in your life. Most of all I hope it inspires you to remember to be grateful daily.
