It’s no secret that once children enter your life everything changes. Can you even remember the last time you used the restroom alone without prying eyes or a child trying to climb up in your lap… Yeah, neither can most moms!
The moment that precious child is handed to you your heart becomes forever changed as well as your priorities. Everything becomes about making sure your little miracle is taken care of. You are like the planets and they are like the Sun. Everything you do revolves around them. Many times this becomes to the point of self neglect.
There are not nearly enough hours in the day and it becomes easy to forget to take care of yourself. It can seem like you’re changing the world by putting your child/children first every moment of every day. But when you run out of fuel and you continuously self sacrifice you become good for nobody. It is imperative to take care of yourself so that you can have the energy and patience to care for your family.
Here are some easy tips for busy moms to ensure that self care and wellness becomes part of every day. The benefits of self care will shine through almost immediately. When you feel at your best you can perform at your best. Happy Momma….Happy Family!
Recharge with Rest
Mommas, you have got to get your rest! Sleep deprivation is crippling and is harmful to your health. Your body needs to recharge and by getting REM sleep your body can do exactly that. Without enough rest our bodies do not function at their peak performance. This affects our minds, health, and overall well being.
You may be thinking, I don’t have any extra hours in the day to rest. This is where prioritizing your time is key. If you make rest a priority and not put it on the back burner, you will be able to find some extra time for rest. Whether that means putting off the laundry in the evening to get an extra hour or two of sleep at night, taking a nap while your child naps, or even taking some extra time for yourself to rest in a quiet space. Whatever that looks like for you in your schedule, do it! Your body will thank you.
You Are What you Eat
The more people added to the family, the less time you have to ensure that there is a balanced meal on the table for every breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Often when our schedules are crammed full, nutrition takes a backseat and sometimes that can even get out of control. (For all you amazing moms who can do it all – we salute you!) But for rest of us who struggle to find balance, here are some tips for keeping your meal choices in check and even some great ways to save time!
Meal planning is the first and foremost important part of the two step plan that can save you time, money, and calories. Set up a weekly meal plan template or pull one off Pinterest for free. Next you can either thumb through your recipe books to make a plan or you can find plenty online! Create a meal plan that works for your family (and budget).
The next step is meal prepping. This will save you so much time during the week because you will have everything prepped on a Sunday afternoon. While this may be more time upfront, you save yourself hours each evening by having your meals ready to cook or throw into the crockpot.
This allows you to add some time to your daily schedule to enjoy a moment of rest or soak up some extra time with your family. It also allows you to have healthy choices on hand ready to go which eliminates the need for the stress of meal time and the impulsive need to grab unhealthy take-out.
To some, the word exercise brings up a reaction that is negative. Exercise doesn’t have to be an extreme event every time you engage in it. Exercise has many benefits that can not only help you get into shape but also relieves you of stress and brings more positive energy into your life.
Let’s go ahead and make this one simple. Add a few exercises to your morning routine. Get out of bed and do some yoga poses or stretches. Throw in some situps, pushups, and squats. It may seem like doing a few little exercises each day doesn’t do much for you, but over time it adds up. Add this into your evening routine as well and you will see the benefits. Not only will you feel your muscles changing, overall you will feel more positive.
Focusing on these three easy wellness tips for busy moms can help you recharge and place a priority on self care. When your cup is full, you can perform your duties as mom (and all the other roles you play) with more happiness and less stress. Make time to put your well being as a top priority.
